Dr. Amber B. Heape, CScD, CCC-SLP, FNAP, CDP, is an Assistant Professor and Concentration Track Director for the Health Professions Education (HPE) track in the SLPD program. A graduate of ºÚÁÏרÇøâ€™s inaugural Clinical Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology program, she joined the faculty full-time in 2023 after serving as an adjunct since 2016. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Sciences with a concentration in Health Professions Education.

With more than 20 years of experience in medical speech-language pathology, Dr. Heape has led clinical practice across over 100 skilled nursing facilities, with expertise in geriatric care, dysphagia, and dementia. Her work is grounded in bridging clinical practice and education, with a strong emphasis on mentoring students and developing resilient, practice-ready clinicians. She also serves as adjunct faculty at South Carolina State University.

Dr. Heape is actively engaged with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association through national leadership, editorial board service, and convention programming, particularly within gerontology. A past president of the South Carolina Speech-Language-Hearing Association and co-founder of its Leadership Development Program, she is recognized for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service, including the 2024 Hartgraves Award. Her research focuses on clinical supervision, student success, and aging populations.
