Credit for Prior Learning

Upon submission of the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) Request Form, the University will evaluate a student’s prior learning experiences for possible academic credit at ºÚÁÏרÇø. Prior learning may include professional work experience, military training, certifications, or other non-traditional educational experiences.

Credit Limits

The amount of CPL that can be awarded varies by program type:

Programs that lead to sitting for initial licensure exam

  • MOT

*In rare circumstances, Transfer Credit may be approved up to 10%. Contact your program for guidance.
CPL not offered
TC up to 25% of program credits

Group 2

Programs that require a previous license and lead to sitting for advanced licensure exam

CPL/TC up to 25% of program credits

Group 3

Programs that do not lead to licensure

  • DMSc
  • DNP*
  • PhD
  • SLPD
*The Post-Master's DNP program is considered Group 3, but only offers TC (no CPL).

Cost

A fee equivalent to 20% of the course tuition is required for each CPL request and must be paid before the evaluation begins. If a request is denied, the fee may be applied to future tuition.

The process takes 2–4 months. Submit requests within 6 months of starting your program.
You must be in Academic Good Standing. Submit requests as early as possible.
Step Number Process Details
Step 1

Submit Your Request

Complete the CPL Request Form (below) and include a written statement and initial (readily available) supporting documentation. Requests are not reviewed until the fee is paid and you are officially enrolled in your program.

Step 2

Preliminary Review by Program

Your program reviews your request to determine if it will move forward. You will be notified of this decision by the Registrar's Office within two weeks of receipt of a complete request. If not approved at this stage, your request is closed.

Step 3

Submit Required Evidence

If your request moves forward, you will receive instructions on the evaluation method(s), required materials, criteria, and deadline (typically two weeks). Submit all requested materials by the deadline. If not received in time, the Registrar's Office will notify you that your request is closed.

Step 4

Full Evaluation by Program

Your program evaluates the materials using the approved method and criteria and decides whether to award academic credit. The program sends their recommendation to the Registrar's Office.

Step 5

Administrative Approvals & Final Decision

The request is reviewed for approval by the College. The Registrar's Office notifies you of the final decision and updates your academic record and schedule, if applicable.
