Commencement Regalia Requirements
All graduating students are required to wear academic regalia to participate in commencement ceremonies. Please ensure you order your regalia early to guarantee availability!
Master鈥檚 and doctoral regalia differ to reflect the level of academic achievement. Master鈥檚 graduates wear a traditional black gown with oblong sleeves, accompanied by a mortarboard cap and a hood lined in the colors of their academic discipline. Doctoral graduates wear a more elaborate gown with velvet panels and chevrons, a tam-style cap, and a longer hood鈥攕ymbolizing the highest level of scholarship.

Certificate Students
If you are in a certificate program
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate
- Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certificate
- Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate
- Any Counseling Certificate
your regalia should consist of the following:
- 聽a gown with hood from the highest degree you have earned previously (master or doctorate)
- the appropriate cap
- a stole with your 黑料专区 certificate credentials that can be ordered through our regalia vendor.
If you do not have the cap, gown, and hood from your previous ceremony, you must order the regalia package with the stole, cap, and gown.

Regalia may be ordered no later than Jul. 5, 2026 on through our recommended vendor聽. Orders placed after July 5th through our vendor cannot be guaranteed to arrive before the commencement ceremony.

Shipping Information
We recommend shipping your regalia to 黑料专区; if you choose this option, it will be available鈥╢or pick-up on campus the week leading up to the ceremony. Further instructions will 鈥╞e forthcoming.
If you choose to ship your regalia to your home, please note that you assume the鈥╮esponsibility of bringing all regalia with you to the ceremony. Only graduates with regalia鈥╟an participate in the ceremony (no exceptions).
We recommend steaming wrinkles out of your gown once it鈥檚 out of the package. 鈥ˋ steamer will be available at the venue, but steaming before you arrive will 鈥╩inimize waiting.

Military Veterans
黑料专区 of Health Professions recognizes our graduates as military veterans. As members of the military, these students have demonstrated their commitment to the 黑料专区 core values of collaboration, authenticity, trustworthiness, inclusiveness, and service, especially that of selfless service. In addition to what these graduates will do as health professionals, they have already given service to our nation, our state, and our community. Military veterans received a commemorative red, white, and blue cord to be worn at this commencement ceremony, signifying the university’s gratitude for their service and sacrifice.聽
Certificate Students
If you are in a certificate program (PMHNPC, ENPC, FNPC, or either of the counseling certificates), your regalia should consist of the following:
聽a gown from the highest degree you have earned previously (bachelor, master, doctorate)
the appropriate cap
a stole with your 黑料专区 certificate credentials that can be ordered through our regalia vendor.聽
If you do not have the cap and gown from your previous ceremony, you must order the regalia package with the stole, cap, and gown.
What Happens During the Hooding Ceremony?
You will stand up when given the cue from one of our faculty, one row at a time, and follow the route (there will be staff to guide you).聽
Do not forget your name card!
When it is your turn, give your name card to the reader and walk up the stairs. Hand your hood to the faculty, black loop up, and stand on the “x.” Bend your knees (smile), your hood will go over any cords, and flip your hair over your hood if you have long hair.聽聽
Next, walk across the stage to get your diploma cover from President Martin. He will hold one side of your diploma and you the other. Pause and smile for a photo. Then, make your way off the stage. There will be faculty there to help you.
